Sue Macartney Snape Biography
Sue Macartney Snape was born in Tanganyika brought up in Australia and now lives and paints in London. John Julius Norwich calls her a "master of caricature" and says her paintings "illustrate the English social scene more brilliantly and with greater accuracy than those of any other painter working today."
Sue Macartney Snape has had numerous commissions and her paintings are avidly collected, adorning the walls of many of England's finest houses. Her Limited Editions are published in-house and are widely collected.
For the past five years Sue Macartney Snape has been drawing the characters in the Telegraph Magazine's 'Social Stereotypes' column. The 'Social Stereotypes' have become somewhat of a Telegraph institution over the years, and are much loved by readers.
Sue often travels around the world and draws the people around her and the characters that she sees. She keeps a drawing notebook on her person and fills it with observations, from which she later draws and paints out specific ideas for individuals and situations. Sue's originals can vary in size from A4 to extremely large, such as the originals of Cheltenham and Henley, and are stunning in their detail.
Sue Macartney Snape is one of our best loved and most highly sought after artists.
