Blake first found fame in the swinging pop era of the 1960’s. He became world renowned when he painted the artwork for the cover sleeve of the seminal Beatles album ‘Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’, and since this period Blake’s works have continued to be highly significant and sought after. Blake’s fame and interaction with the iconic world of celebrity, world events and popular culture have been a major influence on hundreds of young artists who continue to fly the flag for British Pop Art.
At CollectorsPrints, we only take on board the cream of the crop in terms of Pop Art – Peter Blake’s Limited Editions continue to sell out, and as such a prolific artist, his new pieces show his diversity and continued artistic growth. Another artist whose career has spanned many decades in the world of Pop Art is Storm Thorgerson. Thorgerson’s design led and often highly conceptual pieces have also become album covers for several high profile bands; Pink Floyd, Genesis, and Led Zeppelin among others. Indeed, many of these well known pieces are available as Limited Editions here on CollectorsPrints; take a look at ‘Division Bell’ and ‘Dark Side of the Moon’.

Of the younger generation of Pop Artists, the fantastic works of George Ioannou have become a front runner in popularity stakes. Ioannou’s pieces depict the icons of popular culture at their best and most powerful, from Al Pacino to Elvis Presley, Audrey Hepburn to George Best. Ioannou’s use of colour and tone reference these icons in a very unique way, and his moody and powerful compositions always have an element of fun, which allows a viewer to appreciate them over and over.
The historical elements of Pop Art continue to have a huge influence on modern day paintings of popular culture. If you are a fan of the genre, CollectorsPrints recommend beginning with the work of Peter Blake – trust us, the more you learn, the more addicted you will become!
Peter Blake’s Major Retrospective at the Tate Liverpool takes place between the 29th of June and the 23rd of September 2007. |
