Portrait Great |

If you are new to the study of portraiture, it is an absolute must to have a look at the figurative and portrait work of Lucian Freud. Considered the most important British figurative painter of our time, Freud's fleshy tones and distinctive meaty brushstrokes are unique. His work can be found in the National Portrait Gallery, among many others. New RA member Jenny Saville is considered a VIP of modern portraiture, painting woman from unusual perspectives. Saville has a genuinely beautiful and individual viewpoint. |

Alternatively, Melissa Mailer-Yates continues to be a staple artist of modern figurative art. Her flawlessly painted and perfectly observed works are instantly recognisable, and skilfully delicate.
