Background

Jonathan Shaw was born in Leeds in 1959 and grew up watching his father, a professional painter, working.

Jonathan always felt he was destined to follow in his father’s footsteps, but after leaving school eventually found himself working as an interior designer.

Knowing that this was not the life for him, Jonathan eventually resigned from his job to go travelling, financed with money raised from selling his work along the way.

The realisation that he was able to easily sell his work filled Jonathan with confidence and resolve, and he returned home to Yorkshire to open a gallery.

After six years in the gallery, Jonathan felt it was time to move on and took the bold step of dedicating himself to painting full time.

Jonathan’s newfound confidence led him to abandon his original methodical style in favour of more spontaneous “free” painting.

Inspiration

Shaw enjoys painting tropical seas and exotic skies from experiences seen on his travels. He gains a huge amount of pleasure painting beautiful scenes.

Works

In 2003 Jonathan Shaw was shortlisted for Fine Art Trade Guild award for the Best Up and Coming Artist.
