While Sakko’s childhood was spent in the Middle East, he now works and lives in London. His paintings represent these two worlds, particularly in the contrast of the old and the new.
The combination of ancient and modern can be seen in both the inspiration for his work and the execution. The ochres, golds and midnight blues of his radiant cityscapes recall the dazzling illuminations in ancient manuscripts, while his highly contemporary approach to form and style places them firmly in the 21st century.
Sakko paints his images in reverse, directly on to perspex in oils or acrylics. Seeing the images through the reflective surface, rather than on it, adds lustre and depth to each of his luminescent images.
Sakko’s work has been the subject of many successful solo exhibitions all over Europe. You can see more on his collections below.
