About the Artwork

In this second posthumous publication The Last Gasp Beryl Responds to the smoking ban. In one of her final paintings a female patron in a typical pub interior is enjoying her last legal cigarettes in the company of the landlady and a barmaid. Beryl regarded the ban as silly and although she gave up smoking many years ago she would often include smokers and smoking accessories in her pictures.
