Background

Born in 1968 in Cheshire, Rob Hefferan has always painted obsessively from an early age. Following a successful career in advertising, he took the decision to become a full-time artist in 2003. Rob’s much-anticipated debut show sold out in only two hours.

Inspiration

Rob, who once worked in advertising with brands such as the BBC and Volkswagen, draws much of his inspiration from the Pre-Raphaelite movement. Like the Pre-Raphaelites, Rob focuses on maximum realism, drawing out the painting very accurately and completing a section at a time.

Works

Rob primarily works with chalk pastels, oils and acrylics. His figurative pieces focus on capturing, in his own words, “life as it is lived”.

Paying homage to the complex interaction of musculature, tissue and bone, he recreates the poetry of skin’s tone and structure. Rob uses colour, light and textures to reflect the vibrancy of life.

Rob’s figurative pieces frequently experiment with themes, moods and styles to create thought-provoking visual statements, using brush strokes to create an atmospheric backdrop.
